Overview
The Illinois Special Populations Professional Development Tool provides dynamic, interactive instruction to you, the teacher, to assist you in better serving your students. The focus of the research and instructional strategies presented through this professional development is on the special populations as defined in the Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education Act of 2006. Those special populations are
Individuals with Disabilities
Individuals with Limited English Proficiency
Individuals from Economically Disadvantaged Families, Including Foster Children
Individuals Preparing for Nontraditional Fields
Single Parents, including Single Pregnant Women
Displaced Homemakers
This Tool will help you learn more about each of the special populations and suggest effective strategies for your classroom. The Tool begins with information about special populations in general, and then provides definitions and effective strategies specific to each of the special populations. When you have completed each of the sections, a certificate of completion will be provided.
